IMSA Special Lecture Series Dr. Ernesto Lupercio, CINVESTAV Stringy Chern Classes Friday, June 28, 2024, 4:30pm Monday, July 1, 2024, 4:30pm Ungar, Room 528B Abstract: The purpose of this talks is to introduce and study a theory of Chern classes for singular complex varieties by combining techniques of motivic integration with the transformation defined by MacPherson. In particular, we give a construction of a class, which we call the stringy Chern class, with strong birational properties and an interesting "orbifold'' interpretation when the variety is a Gorenstein quotient of a manifold by a finite group. The adjective "stringy" here is dictated by the analogy with other invariants that have been introduced in the literature. IMSA Special Lecture Series Dr. Ernesto Lupercio, CINVESTAV & Dr. Enrique Becerra, University of Miami Stringy Invariants of Orbifolds, A Course by: Dr. Becerra and Dr. Lupercio Monday, June 24, 2024, 4:30pm Tuesday, June 25, 2024, 4:30pm Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 4:30pm Ungar, Room 528B Abstract: In this lectures I will explain the notion of stringy invariant of orbifolds and show some examples. In the first lecture, I will review the classical notion of stringy invariant of log-terminal varieties. Then, in the second lecture, I will introduce motivic integration over Deligne-Mumford stacks. Finally, in the third lecture, I will define the notion of stringy invariant of orbifolds and present some well-known instances of them.
